    A whole panorama of the repertoire for piano trio can be heard here with the award-winning ensemble, from Schumann to Schubert to Shostakovich and others. Thomas Quasthoff picks up on the moods of the music with letters from the First World War.

    Written during the Nazi occupation of France, Poulenc's cantata »Figure humaine« permeates human tragedies of hatred and violence – and ultimately culminates in an ode to freedom.

    : Messiaen: St. François d’Assise

    The life of St Francis of Assisi, magnificently set to music by Olivier Messiaen: this opera closes the Musikfest with a spectacular production featuring the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, Kent Nagano and Anna Prohaska as the Angel.

    : Elbphilharmonie Summer

    Summer, sun, beaches ... and the Elbphilharmonie! Whether symphony orchestra, jazz, pop or world music: at the end of August, the summer festival invites you to a colourful mix of concerts in the Grand Hall. A short trip that is always well worth it!

    Free jazz for a better world – the five musicians of Irreversible Entanglements draw attention to social grievances and fight against discrimination and exploitation with ecstatic-impulsive improvisations to powerful lyrics.

    : Théotime Langlois de Swarte / Thomas Dunford

    The shooting stars on baroque violin and lute do the honours with highly virtuoso and sensitive English baroque music. The starting point was the music to a comedy from Shakespeare’s time – and the rest of the programme is also extremely theatrical!

    : Martha Argerich Festival

    To mark the end of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra’s season, star pianist Martha Argerich is inviting as artist-in-residencenumerous musical friends to take part in her festival throughout the city. Three concerts take place in the Elbphilharmonie.

    : Chamber Orchestra of Europe / Sir András Schiff

    For a special highlight of his residency, the legendary pianist Sir András Schiff returns to the Laeiszhalle. Together with members of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, he presents soulful repertoire jewels by Haydn and Brahms.

    : Amaryllis Quartett

    One of Mozart’s string quartets dedicated to Haydn meets French Impressionism by Albert Roussel. The renowned Amaryllis Quartet will be joined by Henrik Wiese, solo flautist at Bayerischer Rundfunk.
